NOTE: This email is specifically for MS students who are NOT currently GTAs in the Statistics Department for the upcoming Fall semester. If you are a current GTA, you do not need to do anything in response to this email. You should have already received an email from Liz Quigley concerning your contract letter for the Fall.

We possibly will have one GTA opening starting Fall 2011, and one additional GTA opening starting in Spring 2012.

The GTA position is for 20 hours per week. Specific duties may include (depending on assignment):

1) Attending classes (and arriving 15 minutes before the beginning of the class) to assist with collecting and returning graded assignments, handing out and collecting tests and quizzes, etc.
2) Grading assignments, quizzes, and/or tests.
3) Holding regularly scheduled office hours.
4) Responding to student questions via email.

The stipend is around $5,000 per semester; and there is a tuition waiver (difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition) for 6 hours per semester. (In other words, GTAs pay in-state tuition for up to 6 credit hours per semester.)

Students holding a 20 hour assistantship may not engage in other on- or off-campus employment, including additional assistantships, during the period they hold an assistantship without explicit written approval from the department chair, program director, or dean.

If you have any questions about the position, please let me know. If you are interested, please complete the form available via a link near the bottom of the following page:

http://statistics.gmu.edu/pages/gradfinancialaid.html

Details on submission are included on the form.
