So, if you have your IT person do the install and they install with admin permissions, going forward, the tool will always need those permissions to install. The program also always uninstalls the old version when in the process of installing the new. This just makes for a cleaner process.

But this is good feedback. What I'm going to do is for the next release create a self contained user install. I'll make it available for those that want to try it and test with it. You will absolutely need to install any previous version of 7.5 to use it. I'll provide more information over the weekend.

I am also in a situation where I have to have an IT support person remote into my computer and install MarcEdit. With 7.5, we've been struggling with the installation. We've been assuming it was something to do with our remote setup, and it may be, but since you asked for feedback...
For me, 7.5 appeared to have installed fine, and I get the regular alerts about updates. But when I attempt to update (which I should be able to do without admin?) I am taken to the 7.5 installation wizard. Our IT person - with admin access - is also not able to simply update, he also can only completely reinstall. This is happening to both me and a coworker so it's not completely unique to my individual computer.
We've tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling - both for one user and for all - multiple times and it's still happening.
Like I said - it could be completely unique to us, but if anyone has any pointers for what else we can try I'd love to hear them!
(Thank you for the call for feedback!)

My situation is similar to what Paul experiences at the Univ. of Michigan. I do not have admin rights on my computer and I would have to go through the City of San Antonio's IT department to have it installed. I have had it done before the user-only install became available, but it can take a long time for them to get around to it, plus I have had trouble in the past explaining to them what MarcEdit is and why I need it. I would rather avoid that if at all possible.

It would appear that the central question is one of admin rights. I run ME on three machines: one at the community college, where I have local admin rights and had no trouble installing recently (i.e. a few weeks ago); one on my personal laptop, where I should have no troubles but have not tried to update since version 7.2; and one at the U of Michigan library, where I will never have admin rights and going through channels to get things installed is a bear -- and sometimes doesn't work at all. E.g. IT has not yet figured out how to install fonts, of any kind, ever.

I haven't seen that machine for more than a year since we're still working from home, but it likely has a version of ME that is two or three years old, with little likelihood of getting it updated soon.
Not sure if this tells you anything except that your user base is diverse!
