I hadn't realized that this function existed, so I've been playing with it today and have a question about it. In the help file it says:

" If a users checks the Resave modified records in source checkbox, the source file will be modified. The selected records will be removed from the source file, and re-inserted when the modified records are saved. A back-up of the original source file is stored in the Application Directory under the name: xia2me.tmp."

Where is the "Resave modified records in source" checkbox? I don't see anything like that on the screen (I assume it's supposed to be somewhere on the "Select Individual Record(s) to Make" window). From what I can tell, in order to save my extracted records, I have to give them a name, which means they'll end up as a separate file rather than as part of the original file. I'd love for my extracted records to be re-inserted into the original file, but I'm not sure how to get MarcEdit to do it.

Subject: Re: [MARCEDIT-L] How to find records lacking an 856 field

Use the Extract Selected Records function. Change the display field to 856, and then search. Any records without an 856 will say something like Display field not present. Search on that text and you can extract them from your file for further processing.
