Another option, if you do any scripting, is to use the COM capabilities of MarcEdit and extract a unique identifier as a match point along with the subject tags, clean them up and then merge them back into the original record. Not sure if this is possible with the built-in scripting options or not...maybe someone else can comment on that front.

If OpenRefine has an API/WebService/COM option/etc. you could, perhaps, do the entire process in one pass.

If you needed the entire record exported in separate columns you could also do that via scripting and dynamically build the column set as you encountered new tags/subfields or build the entire list upfront, which has the advantage of consistency between groups of records.

In summary, Terry has provided the tools to do what you want. May just take a bit more effort for something like this task.

Jim

Subject: [MARCEDIT-L] Exporting to CSV / Using MARC Edit with Open Refine

Hi,

I'm a new user and I'm trying to use MARC Edit with Open Refine. Ideally, I'd like to be able to bring a set of about 5,000 records into MARC Edit, do some clean-up, then export to CSV so that I can use Open Refine's clustering function to fix typos and errors in subjects. I see that I can use the Export Tab Delimited Records function to identify and export specific fields, but I don’t see an efficient way to export all of the fields to csv at once. I feel like I must be missing something - help please?

Thanks,
