I recently remembered that ME has a command line tool & realized this
could be used to create an incredibly simple process for converting
files.

1. Put the following the two lines in a text file:
cd C:\Program Files (x86)\MarcEdit 5.0\
cmarcedit.exe -s %1 -d "%~dpn1.mrc" -character -utf8

2. Save the file, then create a batch file by changing the extension
from *.txt to *.bat.

3. Drop any MARC-8 file on top of the batch file, or right-click on
the MARC file & open it with the batch file as a program.

4. Voila, presto-change-o!

More info about the command line tool here:

I was not able to figure out how to properly create the MARCEdit
variable as Terry suggests, hence the change directory command in the
first line ... (Much head-banging on desk -- a screencapture's the
only thing that will help me grok that, I'm afraid.)

Now, if only the command line tool could also run tasks or macros ;-)

Thank you again, Terry, for a very cool utility!
