>It is now possible to place the text data in subfield q. The text is still available but subfield a is now only numbers. It should help in matching, once this is commonly used to match on ISBNs. If you’re getting records from vendors with qualifying text in a, ask them to start using q.
While this has been added to MARC21, I don't think it has been added to OCLC-MARC yet (though it should be in their next update later this year). So those who use OCLC don't have that option yet, and some vendors might be hesitant to start using $q before the rest of the world does.
