Enhancing minimal Overdrive records was one of my first projects with MarcEdit at my previous employer (a public library). We received spreadsheets with basic information (title, author, ISBN, maybe an OCLC#, and the link) for each title. I'd use ME to convert these into basic MARC records. It sounds like you might have something similar? The OCLC numbers generally pointed to fuller records, so first I run a batch in OCLC Connexion to retrieve all those records. My next step was to use the ISBNs to run another batch search for ant titles without OCLC numbers to retrieve possible matches. I'd have to de-duplicate that set (just sorting the results in the Connexion save file and choosing the best for each title). Then I'd export the OCLC records, and use MarcEdit to delete the 856s from the OCLC records. Finally I merge the files (OCLC records and brief Overdrive records), keeping only the 856s from the Overdrive records. This generally helped ensure the records have SH, imprints, etc.
I didn't use the Validate Headings report back then, but now I would use it on the names (1xx & 7xx). Depending on what you are getting from Overdrive this might suggest some global edits, for example if you are mostly getting fiction audiobooks and see a recurring name that needs qualifiers added.

I hope that helps. With an example of what you're getting from Overdrive there might be better suggestions.

Subject: [MARCEDIT-L] Looking for tips on using MarcEdit to improve OverDrive records

CAUTION: This email originated from outside of The University of Akron.

Hi all!

I have a batch of records for ebooks and eaudiobooks from OverDrive that I want to edit before I upload them into my ILS.

I checked the listserv's archives yesterday and found a few posts about editing OverDrive records. I thought it couldn't hurt to see if anyone has any additional tips on using MarcEdit with OverDrive records.

For those of you who use MarcEdit to edit these free, minimal records from OverDrive, I'm interested in learning your tips, tricks, and suggestions for working with these records.

Thank you!
