I like your proposed solution, pages with a user-selectable number of records per page. Perhaps it could lead to the availablility of a directory page to easily access records. The directory might have user-selectable columns for various fields to display and sort, and when a row was double-clicked, the program would go directly to that record.
On the find all dialog/display, if you have access to MacOS, I'm not sure if it is present in Textwrangler [1], but Bare Bones' BBEdit Lite software has a find all results screen that sounds similar to what you may be describing.
