Dear MARCEDIT-L readers,

Some with long memories (read: 1980s-1990s) will recall that diacritics used to be entered before the character they modify, rather than afterward as is now done. I've been working with WorldCat records dating from that period, and have found cases where the diacritic appears differently than is needed. Sometimes, as Walter Nickeson said, there's a duplicate field.
