No -- you don't want to do that.

Question -- what version of Windows. Different versions of windows handle this differently. Generally, generally - you can set MarcEdit to run as an administrator [if installed for all -- you shouldn't have to do this if just installed by user] (right click, run as admin) go to the preferences, and then reset the File associations. That will attempt to reset the associations in all the places where its put in the registry across the various systems. Windows 10 and 11 for example, have protected registry locations so if you have used windows to set the default type -- the program can't change them. The only way to change it is to go through the windows 10/11 interface and remove the association (again, not in the registry).

I had an idea about my broken file extension associations. Would it work to copy the registry keys from a working MarcEdit setup for mrc and mrk files? Otherwise what can I do? Do I have to reinstall windows to fix this? That's the only other thing I can think of.

Lloyd
