I do the same with exports from OCLC Connexion. They have the extension .dat by default, but they're just MARC and can be simply renamed to .mrc.

The Windows setting Steven is referring to is: With a folder window open, View > Options > Change folder and search options > View tab > uncheck the box for "Hide extensions for known file types".
