I find that having updated features and problem fixes sent out more
often is preferable, especially since you automated the updating process.
I am in an environment that doesn't/wouldn't coordinate updates to
MarcEdit, however.
Could you set up the software to allow users to switch between "update
whenever available" to "update monthly" (maybe even on a selected date,
say every 15th?). This could have the added benefit of allowing people
to run the update to get a newly-released fix for something that affects
their work flow (by changing the setting), but otherwise leave updates
to the monthly schedule (by changing it back).
I don't know how much programming time that would take vs. the benefits
to the users, so take it with a grain of salt.
