Hello all,
I really need the wisdom of the listserv to help me with these two questions. Let me give you some background. Ideally I’d like to make these global changes in Millennium, but I’m not sure I can.
We are migrating from our Millennium ILS to WMS from OCLC. As part of the data clean up, we discovered we have a problem with some local call numbers that have multiple $a's in them, or $as that should be $b's. We are sending our data next week, so we are on a tight schedule.
Situation One:
Our curriculum collection has a local call number scheme created many moons ago based textbook subject and publisher. Unfortunately, the majority of the 099 fields have the $a multiple times to separate the parts of the call number:
099 _ _ S|aFOS|aGLE|aG
We would like to change the three visible subfield |a's to blanks so it looks like this:
099 _ _ S FOS GLE G
Can we do this without inserting a blank where the "understood" $a at the beginning of the marc field is located?
Is there a regular expression or, hopefully, a simpler way of doing this? We have to make this change not only in the bib record, but also in the attached item records of which, since these are curriculum materials, there are a couple thousand.
Is it even possible to use MarcEdit for item records?
Situation Two:
The library serves as the defacto archive for our institution, and there is a local call number scheme for each type of publication the college produces. In many of the records the local call number has two $a’s again.
CALL # 099 M|aM142b In this situation, the first M is not a prefix and is in the first $a.
We would like to change the second |a to a |b so it looks like this: 099 _ _ M|bM142b
We have to change these in both the bib and item records.
Again, any advice about regular expressions or other ways of making this change?
