Column 3 is the number of records that contain one or more occurrences the specified field.

Your report indicates that 12 out of your 403 records contain at least one 651 field, and thus the other 391 records have none. Since there is a total count of 18
of these 651 fields in all, some record(s) must have multiple 651s.

Looking at a different example of 6186 records below, each listed field 000 (LDR) thru 049 occurs once, and every record has exactly one of the fields.
For field 072, however, 5922 of these records have exactly one 072, some single record has two of them, and 263 records lack any 072.

Subject: [MARCEDIT-L] report columns

Hello,

Can someone please explain the 3rd column that appears on the report? For example, my file of 403 records has 18 651 fields. On the report, "12" appears in the 3rd column and "18" in the fourth column. What does the 12 refer to? (There are 3 $v's, 9$x's, 2 $y's, 18 $a's, and 7 $2's.)

Thanks!

Margaret
