Not sure if this would be helpful as related to MarcEdit, but I created an Excel sheet that allows us to calculate our barcode check digits and end up with a list of barcode numbers as a text file. We import this file into a label program that will print the barcode font and eye-readable number onto labels for use on Guest/Temporary cards. (They could just as easily be for books/materials with use of the correct beginning digit(s).)

While this method seems like a very convoluted approach, it works and it was the only effective means I had at the time to generate a whole long list of desired barcodes with the least amount of effort. (Some of the websites available that will calculate check digits would only do one number at a time or were not flexible enough to print a sheet of labels with the correct spacing for our needs.)

The "Step 1", items 1-8 instructions listed in the Word document must be followed exactly in detail. I would recommend making a backup copy of the spreadsheet before doing anything with it, because if you save any changes to it during/after the process you will write over the formulas in the cells that perform the calculations.

Hope this is helpful for someone.

Subject: [MARCEDIT-L] Rebuilding Barcode Check Digits

Hello all,

I have a situation where I have MARC records that have had their check
digits stripped off of them.

Have any of you handy people written a macro to use with MarcEdit that
would rebuild a MOD10 check digit on a CODABAR boarcode?

Thanks,

Nora
