Hello,
I think this depends on which number in the Field Count Report you are comparing your extract numbers to. The field count report will give you the number of records that contain a given field, and then how many times that field is found in the file (repeatable fields can be found in a single record, multiple times).
The extract tool will export repeatable fields, found in the same bib, into one tab delimited cell (separated by semi-colon).

Subject: [MARCEDIT-L] Discrepancies between MARC-reports and TXT-Extraction
Hello,
I am a graduate student majoring in history. For a project about publications of women in the sciences I'am analysing a dataset from the German Nationallibrary (DNB ). To make the preprocessing faster and easier I've been using the MARC-Editor, especially the report and the TXT-Extraction functions. I suppose I am doing something wrong:
When I compare the total numbers of (non-empty) entries I see some severe discrepancies: For example, field 41$a has 142952 entries in the TXT-extract, but the report shows 143414 entries for field 41$a. For Field 264$a the results are even worse: According to the report I should have 124946 non-empty entries, in the TXTExtraction I only get 98651. For some fields the numbers fit, for others they are higher on the report than the number of entries in the TXT-extract.
Is this an expected behaviour? How could this happen, I mean what could be the cause for these discrepancies and how can I fix the problem?
Thanks in advance,
Suellen
