Hi Kenzie,

as I find the Select Records for Edit function very useful but, for beginners, a trifle unintuitive, here are some hints that might be helpful. I was very grateful when I found them in a message by Angela Kroeger recently. As I am not sure whether you have access to older mails from this list, I'd like to quote her lines here. Her original mail was on May 24th with the subject "Finding Records Sharing a Subfield".

Just replace 999$k by 490$a (or whatever subfield you have in all 490 fields).

> Open your file in MarcEdit, then under the File menu, choose "Select Records for
> Edit."
>
> "Display Field" defaults to 245$a. Change that to 999$k, then click "Import File."
>
> The import may take a little while, if you've got a very large file of records.
> When it's finished importing, it will show the contents of the 999$k for records
> that have it, and "Display field not found" for records that don't.
>
> Click "Does Not Match," which will select all "Display field not found." Then click
> "Invert selections," and it will flip the selection to the records that do have
> 999$k.
>
> Then click "Export Selected," and voila, you've got your list of records containing
> 999$k.

After editing the exported records, when you click "Save", the exported set of records will be imported back into the original .mrk file. The file will be closed in the same step, so for further editing you'll have to reopen it in MarcEditor.

Hope this helps, and also that it was OK to quote from another mail.

Best regards,
Anke
