Hi All,
I'm posting a similar question to the Aleph500-L list, so I apologize
for duplication.
Can anyone tell me if there is a realistic limit they found works well
when loading Marc bibliographic records into Aleph using MarcEdit?
My understanding is that we're using the OCLC loader when we
export from Marcedit into Aleph, matching on the 035 field in the Aleph
record.
My reason for asking is that our setup has limited access to the Aleph
loaders, so we have systems staff load larger batches (in excess of
1,000 records) of records and use Marcedit to load batches under that
limit. I've always used export file sizes of 100 records for these
loads, but only because my predecessor used a similar limit.
I'm wondering if 500, 1,000, or more have been done by others and
whether you have found a certain amount to be a practical maximum?
Then there's the question of whether there is a difference between
loading new records versus overlaying with records modified, but not new?
Our configuration indexes about 10,000 new records per day, if that would
help with any answers you might offer.
Thanks for reading!
Tim
