Margerat,

Bryan's answer was actually correct. The LDR wasn't correct. It was too long. MarcEdit will attempt to compile the data but the record will be invalid (which folks are finding if they can compile the file). My suggestion was really because you'd talked about seeing an error thrown on compile and after the last update, a handful of people have reported seeing an error on compile after updating.

But as I say, Bryan was correct, the LDR isn't right so even if the record compiles, it won't be valid.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I have tried all the changes suggested and nothing makes a difference. Since a couple of you could compile the record, Terry's explanation makes the most sense. I did reinstall MARCEdit and still can't get the file into .mrc, but I think it may have to do with my not being able to run programs from my C-drive; IT has to install it in some cryptic part of my computer. I don't understand it exactly, but it is the only solution that makes sense at this point.

Thanks again for the help!

Margaret

leader has 28 not 24 characters and ending 450 instead of 4500; very
weird values too but I don't know how MarcEdit handles the leader,
it's not part of the validation requirements as far as I remember.
