I currently use the ‘Delete Selected Records’ function from the tools menu within MarcEdit to remove all records from a MARC file that have a specific value in a specific tag. I do this on a regular basis and am checking to see if there is a way to automate the process further by creating a macro or task to perform the steps below:

1.	Open MarcEdit > Tools > Select Marc Records > Delete Selected Records
2.	Choose Source MARC file
3.	Change display field to 691$a
4.	Import File
5.	Search for ‘serial’
6.	Delete Selected
7.	Save the remaining records to a new file name

The only procedural elements that change for me are the Source MARC file name and the name for the MARC file that gets created from the remaining records.

I understand that ‘Tasks’ can be created from within the MarcEditor to be able to modify specific tags and values but, I did not see a way to delete whole records based on single tag values from within Tasks. I also did not see a way to retain the previous parameters or create something similar to the MarcEditor Tasks from within the ‘Delete Selected Records’ tool.

Am I missing an existing feature or, does this functionality not yet exist?

Thanks,
Marty
