Thanks for the reply there but I'm afraid I have read it through a
couple of times now and don't understand. Compiling back into a MARC
file after I have edited things is not removing the full stops from the
end of each tag.
For example this tag:
=650 \0$aPulmonary embolism.
After compiling when I import the marc file into our LMS, there is still
a full stop after embolism?

So, when you compile records to MARC -- MarcEdit will remove all stops
(0x10 & 0x13) because these are invalid MARC characters. If you need to
use the mnemonic file format -- then it's a bit more difficult.
MarcEdit's editor only uses 0x13 -- but when it saves the data -- it
defaults to your operating systems default new line character (which on
windows is always the combination of a new line and carriage return.
