Working with the new update, I'm having a problem extracting records
from a large MRC or MRK file. I can search and select the records,
and I can export selected records to a file, but with the current
version of MarcEdit, I can't figure out how to get selected records
deleted from the source file.
I've only used this function a couple of times before, and at that
time I didn't really have a problem. However, I think in those cases
I wanted the file of selected records. Is there a way to split the
file into one file of selected records and one file of the unselected
records?
Specifically, in this case, I wanted to delete the serial records, so
I searched for ISSN in the 022 field. This found all the records with
ISSNs, and now I want to have a file of all the records *without*
ISSNs. I would do this manually if it was a small file, but it's
over 40,000 records, so that won't really work.
I don't know if something changed with this newest version, or
whether I've forgotten some important step.
The help file says, "If a users [sic] checks the Resave modified
records in the source checkbox, the source file will be modified."
I'm not able to figure out what checkbox this refers to. I don't see
it as an option in the Extract tool screen.
Suggestions, please!
Advance thanks,
Stacy
