You can actually have more than two 264 fields (though it does not happen often in practice). And there isn't actually a rule about the order in which they appear in the record. But figuring out which one needs the copyright symbol is easy. You should add the copyright symbol in 264 second indicator 4, disregarding how many 264 fields there are.

Subject: [MARCEDIT-L] adding a copyright symbol
Hi
I'm looking for some help with adding in a copyright symbol to a second 264 field.
You can't just find 264 $c and replace with 264 $c© because that will put it at the end of the publication information in the main 264 string. I only need to ensure that where there is a second 264 field in the record - that gets the © symbol before the date.
For most Libraries I accession for they want the © stripped out (which is easy) - but one library has asked that we ensure that it is put in.
Most records that have that second 264 field will have the symbol, but some don't and some have 'copyright' spelled out but I don't know how to do it without effecting the main 264 field.
Can someone help me figure out how to do this as a bulk change because going through every record will be a nightmare.
Cheers
steve
