If you can isolate the data you want by a value in a field -- you can use the Extract Selected Records tool to search for (using instring or regular expressions) specific data and conditionally select records. These selected records can then be exported from the source file and isolated into a new file for further processing. That's how I would likely approach this if it was me.

Subject: [MARCEDIT-L] Splitting files
Hello all, I'm a MarcEdit neophyte and hope this isn't a completely inane question.
We get batches of records for OverDrive downloadable resources, which I then edit and export from OCLC Connexion to our local (Horizon) catalog. OCLC sends us these files separated by format (eBook records, eAudio records, the occasional file of eVideo records) but not by audience. For purposes of statistics and assigning genre headings, I'd like to separate adult, juvenile, and young adult records within each file. Logically I guess this would be on the basis of the 008/22 codes, but is there a way to do this in MarcEdit? Or I suppose another way would be to sort the file by 008/22 values; at least then the different audience levels would be together.
Any ideas, or pointers to resources where this is covered, will be much appreciated. Thanks!
