Terry,
Using 5.2, the MARC validator found 18 corrupt records. Once they were deleted I could get a report of the numbers and convert the file to .mrc and import the records successfully into Voyager. Hurray!

Actually, I just got 5.2 downloaded yesterday. Had tried several times
before and my whole computer got locked up. What apparently had
happened was that the 5.2 file automatically downloaded to an existing
5.0 folder (something to do with my lack of security authorization to
download exe files) and the name of the folder had to be changed before
5.2 could be executed. Or something like that :-)
I will try the Rand file in 5.2 and get back to you.

Margaret,
You are right -- this would be what's causing the error (a records
problem). My question -- is this the most current version of MarcEdit?
I've been doing some work to trap these kinds of problems to provide a
bit more useful information for debugging purposes.
