the MARC=>MARCXML process assumes that the data is in binary MARC (in marcedit, that's a .mrc file or a .mrk file [this is a text encoded file] that has been encoded into a MARC file). The error is telling you that the file format isn't in binary MARC, so it cannot process the data using this option. You'd need to compile the file into MARC (MarcMaker) and then run this process.

Subject: [MARCEDIT-L] Newbie: Need Basic Help: Undefined Filetype
I just discovered this tool and need some help.
I created a test file (something.mrk) and when I try to convert it from MARC=>MARCXML, I get the error message "Error Number: -3 Undefined Filetype."
What does this mean?
Thanks in advance,
Ilana
