Does MarcEdit now slip in some 64-bit Access 2016 component when it
installs? Like possibly this?
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=54920
I was baffled yesterday when Access (Office 365, presumably 32-bit) was
unable to start with a strange error message about not being able to
access the Windows registry, could not start in safe mode or repair
itself either, while other Office applications still functioned and I
had done nothing recently to change Office that I could think of. After
a song and dance of both a 32-bit and 64-bit installer refusing to do
anything because they each saw components with the opposite bits already
installed, I remembered I had recently installed MarcEdit 7.5 and
wondered if that was actually the culprit, a result of whatever change
meant no longer having to restart it in 32-bit mode to run the OCLC db
reader plugin.
In the end I removed the all 32-bit Office and started over with just
64-bit Office 365 and nothing else, and they seem to be playing OK now.
But if I've got the right idea about what happened, "Installing MarcEdit
will break an existing working install of 32-bit Access" isn't so great.
