Thanks, Sally, glad to know I'm not the only one with the problem. I used to check the count after each edit, but then I went for months without losing any records, so I got complacent. Guess I'd better return to checking BEFORE I save the edits. I'm curious: do you notice that the problem occurs only with large files?

Margaret: I had this problem, or thought I had. When I notice a drop in the field count--and in a big file I check after every edit--I immediately close the file without saving changes. When I go back all the records are there and I can re-edit without any problem. But why does the field count drop in the first place?

I keep losing records. I will make a number of edits to a file, and all goes well. Then all of a sudden I lose most of the file. I admit I'm working with a largish file (10,000 bibs) but I don't understand why I can make changes without a problem if size were the issue.
I think someone else on this list had this problem but I can't remember what they thought was causing it.
