Kathleen,

This kind of problem I can look into. Whether or not a save is occurring will be strictly a code problem and there is only one function that determines when saving can happen -- so the scope is pretty narrow. However, if folks do find oddities -- you are always invited to let me know. However, MarcEdit is made up of a lot of pieces and a lot of code. In order to isolate what portion of the program should be debugged for issues that I cannot easily recreate -- I need a test file, an exact steps taken to recreate the issue. This allows me to see what variables may or may not be set or see what condition may be causing a specific problem.

I've seen something that may be similar to what you're seeing. Sometimes the Save button doesn't seem to actually save the record. I noticed last week that when this happens, "find" doesn't see the unsaved changes. In these cases, when I close Marc Editor, I'm asked if I want to save the record (even if I've just tried to save it with the Save button). At this point, if I click "Yes" when asked if I want to save the record, the changes are present when I re-open Marc Editor and "find" works.

I've noticed, on my system at least, a quick flicker when the Save button *does* work, so if I don't see the flicker I know to close and re-open Marc Editor (saving when asked) if I need to do a "find."

I haven't noticed any particular file characteristic or edit that triggers this failure to save. I've had the Save button work and not work at different times on the same file. (And I wasn't able to trigger the problem in a test file this morning.)

Subject: [MARCEDIT-L] Another oddity

Hello again,

I started in again editing the batch of 1291 records. When I did a "find" on a certain text string, I edited the first record highlighted, then saved the file. When I repeated the "find" with the same text string, the edits on the first record had not been recorded, although when I did a "find all," this record was no longer listed. Another oddity was that after editing the first "find" and then repeating the "find," I retrieved no more records. Yet if I did a "find all" on the same text string, I retrieved 7 matches.

I'm not sure if I'm explaining this sufficiently. Terry, do you want me to forward you the file?
