Terry:

We are also struggling with Springer, but in a different realm of duplication:

There are multiple OCLC records for the same Springer title, some described as an online resource, and some as an electronic reproduction.
All contain multiple ISBNs: 10- and 13-digit versions, some for print, some for electronic.

If I set the MarcEdit deduplication tool to use ISBN as the control field,

a) which ISBNs will it compare: first in the record? last? all?
b) if a match is found, which record will it keep: first in the file? last?

Thanks!

DougR

If you are looking to determine unique records, duplicates, etc. -- the best way would be to combine the files, and then use the duplication tool in MarcEdit. That will allow you to set a field to use as the control number and have MarcEdit attempt to reconcile duplicates and unique records.
