I ran into that problem when transferring task lists from my laptop, windows 7 to a desktop on windows xp.

I exported all of my task lists that didn't reference other lists to the desktop, then just rebuilt the main list once I had imported the basic lists into MarcEdit on the desktop.

Ex. Basic Lists are Replace, Add, Delete, 260 Cleanup, 300 Cleanup, and 650 Cleanup. These lists are all run in order from a single list of CLEANUP that I have assigned to the Shift + F1 command.

It took a little extra time, but I got them to work on the desktop without having to rebuild each list.

Subject: Sharing tasks which refer to other tasks - silent TASK_LIST step failures

(Sorry if this comes through twice; I didn't see it make it to the list...)

Hi,

Adding the ability to call one task from within a task has been great.

However, we've noticed that tasks that call another task do not work when shared between our staff.

I've identified that this is because, when I add a "TASK_LIST" step to a task, it's saved in the actual task file with a full path to the called task on my computer:

TASK_LIST a-hdgsrc Delete headings from some sources
C:\Users\kspurgin\AppData\Roaming\marcedit\macros\task_a-hdgsrc.txt

Then, I export my configuration settings, and my staff import the most current configuration settings.

When they try to run a task that calls another task, the called task steps just do not run (because C:\Users\kspurgin\... doesn't exist on their computers!), and fail silently.

Since all the task files live in the same folder (C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\marcedit\macros\), I tried editing the task text file to call the TASK_LIST steps like:

TASK_LIST a-hdgsrc Delete headings from some sources task_a-hdgsrc.txt

or

TASK_LIST a-hdgsrc Delete headings from some sources
.\task_a-hdgsrc.txt

Neither of those worked, on my computer or anyone else's.

Is there a way to effectively share these tasks that call other tasks? I thought about just setting my MARCedit installation and my staff's to use the same folder on a network drive for tasks, but I didn't see where to change the paths, and I wasn't sure if we might run into problems working this way.

Thanks,
Kristina
