Hi Terry,
I wasn't able to attach files, my email was rejected when I tried. I
don't if the additional information below will help.
This basically happens with our eBook/eAudio records that are
automatically loaded into our Polaris system. To clean them up, I have
to export them as a marc file from Polaris (using the Simply Reports
module), then edit them in MarcEdit, the import them back and overlay
the original records.
When I export the records through Simply Reports, the encoding options
are MARC8 and UTF Unicode. The default is MARC8 so I just go with
that.
One thing I noticed when I looked at today's records in Polaris, the
leader was UCS/Unicode. It looks like that's what the vendor sends.
Can that be the reason this is happens?
When it comes to encoding formats such as MARC8 etc., I know next to
nothing so I'm very much in the dark. I basically took over this
process from a staff member who retired, and I'm following her
instructions to do the cleanup.
