We're currently using version 7.5.65. I'm not sure what settings we
should enable to make sure the marc files are in UTF8 format.

Currently, I download files of marc records from vendors. Open and
edit them in MarcEdit, then load them into our ILS. I'm not certain
what format the original files are in, but UTF8 keeps our records with
diacritics from getting messed up.

In the Marc Breaker window, I have default encoding set to MARC8 and
the compile records as UTF8 box checked. When I select my file name to
edit, it gets an extension of mrk8. This seems to work.

But I'm not sure if this is what I should be doing. I also see under
Settings -- MarcEditor there is an option to set UTF8 as the default
or check the compile as UTF8. How does this work together with the
options in the Marc Breaker window?

In other words, what should I be doing here? My coworker also can't
get the UTF option in the Marc Breaker to stick. She doesn't get a
file with mrk8 extension.

Thanks in advance for any help.
