To split the file so each record is a separate file using MarcEdit Open MARCSplit under Tools. Enter the file name, or browse and select it. Select a destination folder. Then in the Records per file box enter 1.

My guess is that this is a marc file. Just change the extension. Right click on the file, change 001 to mrc and then you likely will be fine. OCLC does this using a .dat format, other ILS systems use .bin. Extensions are arbitrary -- they really define automatic actions.

Subject: [MARCEDIT-L] Novice--soliciting help to edit records received as
.001 file
Apologies for my ignorance...I'm pretty unfamiliar with MarcEdit and any files that aren't .mrc
A vendor is supplying me with 97 so-called MARC records that are in a single
.001 file
I asked for some support and was told, merely, "...the file will either save to your machine (Firefox or Chrome) or it will open (Internet Explorer). If you're using Internet Explorer and you want to save the file locally, you will need to right-click the link to the set of MARC records you want to download, click Save Target As, and then choose your download location. The
.001 file that's downloaded should be importable to your local system."
Here's what I would like to do, if someone could tell me how:
1) I would like to convert this .001 file to a .mrc file.
2) I would like to break the file into 97 .mrc files, one for each record. I would like to do this so that I can load a single test record into the ILS, rather than loading all 97 of them.
Thanks to any and all!
