Subject: Re: [MARCEDIT-L] Split problems

This message may show up if there was a problem with one of the records in terms of length -- because the split tool reads the leader, sets a string of exactly that size, and then pulls that data and stuffs it into it. If the leader data and actual data was incorrect, that might cause this error.

I'd like to make sure that if this is indeed the problem, that the error message is more graceful and descriptive. If you could send me a zip of the files, I would appreciate it because I can debug exactly where the problem shows up and what the characteristics of the records might be.
