Hi all,
I am a MARCEdit newbie. As in, I’m a Library and Information Technology student taking a cataloging course this summer and downloaded the program last night as part of this week’s assignment.
So far, I’ve accomplished what I need to do for the assignment, and am finding the basics simple enough.
I am stumped by the following: whether it is possible to edit one field based on the presence of another. In this case, the file we’ve been asked to edit with 124 records has some shoddy punctuation. The 300 ends in a mark of punctuation, regardless of whether the 490 is present. Not all records have a 490, but the 300 in every record has ending punctuation.
Is it possible to remove the ending punctuation for only those 300s without a corresponding 490? I’ve looked through some of the videos, but without understanding what sort of function this could be, I have not been successful in finding anything.
The only other information I can think that would be relevant is I’m on Windows 11, User Only version of MARCEdit and the default settings.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Kenzie.
