So, MarcEdit supports work over https connections, but it doesn't support
authentication over https, save for proxy data.  In fact, I think you will
have trouble finding few, if any, oai tools that can handle authentication
directly because oai servers are supposed to be public.  

If authentication was a universal need, I would consider it, but as I say,
oai is assumed to be public.

Additional piece of information that I forgot to mention is that they use
authentication as well over https.
