Hi Joel,

I've been trying to write the script using the script tool. I choose
"Modify" and then I enter 952 as the field number in the IF section. I
check off "Use conditional," keep HAS and enter $oREF in the box next to
has.

I enter 952 as the field in the lower portion, y as the subfield, I
leave the Find text box empty and enter MASSCAT-NL in the "Replace with"
box.

When I run the script against the file I want to change, no changes take
place. I've also tried writing the script putting MASSCAT-L in the
"Find Text" box in the lower portion, but again no changes are made.

The call numbers that begin with REF will all vary, but they all start
with REF. Does that matter? How would I account for that in the IF
section?

I appreciate your help!

Nora

Hi Nora,

At what point does the script writer fail? Depending on what it's doing
I may be able to help you.

Joel

Subject: Help with Making Repetitive Changes

Hello all,

I find I have to perform a lot of changes to records where I need to
change information in one subfield based on information identified in
another subfield.

For example, if subfield o (letter o) of the 952 field begins with REF,
I need to change information in subfield y of the 952 field to read
MASSCAT-NL

I tried using the script maker in MarcEdit to write a script, but I
cannot get it to work. Has anyone had success using the script writer?
If not, does anyone know if the other tools available in MarcEdit would
allow me to make these changes in bulk rather than one at a time as I do
now? It take me forever to sift through some files to make the changes.

I'd appreciate any help or advice.

Thanks,

Nora
