Hi Margot,

don't know if this is the expert way, but I always open my documents (either .csv / .txt or .mrk) in an editor like Notpad++ to see if they are in UTF8 and to convert them to UTF8 if they aren't. This prevents most problems, e.g. with German umlauts. However, there often remain some strange characters (like field separators* or "long" hyphens) that have to be identified and removed by find and replace.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Anke

* The field separators aren't even identified by MarcEdit, but our target system (Koha) won't accept them. Luckily, we can see and eliminate them in Notepad++.
