Thanks everyone. For some reason I didn't even think of using replace I was messing around with the edit subfield data trying to figure out how I could do it that way. It worked perfectly. Thanks again.

Subject: Re: [MARCEDIT-L] replacing text in specific 856 field?
Hi Teressa
I find I have to do this a lot.
I know that the only ones I want to add our proxy server info to is those where the indicator 40 and $u
So I would just do a replace all.
First of all I would just do a Replace =856 40$u with =856 40$u to see what numbers to expect.
Then I would Replace =856 40$u with =856 40[ezproxy info]$u
If the numbers changed matched your first test then you know you did it correctly

Subject: [MARCEDIT-L] replacing text in specific 856 field?
I have a file of publisher records that I am using MarcEdit to update prior to loading them to our catalog. The records have multiple 856 fields like this:
=856 40$uhttp://dx.doi.org/10.1007/0-306-47949-4$zConnect to this title online.
=856 41$3Table of contents$uhttp://www.loc.gov/catdir/toc/fy035/2002034181.html
=856 42$3Publisher description$uhttp://www.loc.gov/catdir/enhancements/fy0813/2002034181-d.html
I need to add a prepend for our proxy server to the 856 40 $u only. There is no need to add the prepend to the links for the table of contents or the publisher description. Is there a way to have MarcEdit only make the change to one 856 per record or will it have to change all of them.
Additionally if we were to determine we want to delete the extra 856 fields and only keep the one that actually links to the full text of the item. Is there a way to delete those while saving the one we want to keep?
