Dear HIST PhD Students,
If you do not already know about this, some of you may be interested
in the new digital database that has been long in the making and is
now on-line, called "Voyages: The Trans-Atlantic Slave trade
Database," directed by Professor David Eltis at Emory University.
http://www.slavevoyages.org/tast/index.faces
There is data here on almost 35,000 slaving voyages that transported
over 10 million Africans to the Americas between 1514 and 1866. Over
67,000 Africans are identified by name, age, slave ship, gender,
origin, and place of embarkation. There are lots of other resources
on the site, including over 200 images and an African name database.
