Please find below a message from Tommy Patteson, a Ph.D. student in the program at Catholic.

If you are interested in teaching and want to meet like-minded History Ph.D. students in the area, this might be a good opportunity.

Please read the message and, if you want to be involved, respond to Tommy directly.

Best,

Cindy

Subject: DC Area Historical Pedagogy for Graduate Students

Dear Professor Kierner,

The history department graduate students at CUA would like to form a DC area organization focused on historical pedagogy. The idea would be to have 2-3 departments host an event each semester (additional events, of course, could be held if desired). For example, CUA could hold the first event and would have a professor give a talk on some area of historical pedagogy. Following the talk there could be a formal discussion and a reception for informal discussion/socializing. This organization would have the additional benefit of allowing graduate students to meet other people in their field, which would be beneficial for many reasons (learning more about the happenings of a field, commiserating about the frustrations of grad school, professional networking, etc.).

To organize this, we would like two graduate student representatives from each school to act as liaisons. If you think that your department would like to participate, could you please have them email Tommy Patteson ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) or Amanda Perry ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>)? Once we are in contact, we can begin to discuss potential days of the week, times, formats, etc. that would work the best.

All the best,
Tommy Patteson
