*The University of California, Irvine, seeks to fill a tenure-track 
position at the Assistant Professor rank in the history of knowledge 
during the period from ca. 1400 to 1800, with a preference for 
eighteenth-century Europe.  However, those working on other areas of the 
world, excluding the Americas, will be seriously considered.  The 
candidate?s area of expertise could include: the history of science, 
history of medicine, systems of knowledge and classification, magic and 
alchemy, scientific investigation and exploration, the Enlightenment in 
a global context, political economy, circuits of knowledge, religious 
thought, or secularism.  The ability to contribute to the department?s 
curriculum in World History is desirable.
