Title: Doctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowships

SYNOPSIS: The GHI awards short-term fellowships to German and
American doctoral students as well as postdoctoral scholars in the
fields of German history, the history of German-American relations,
and the history of the role of Germany and the USA in international
relations. These fellowships are also available to German doctoral
students and postdoctoral scholars in the field of American history.
The fellowships are usually granted for periods of one to six months.

OBJECTIVES: The GHI will not provide funding for preliminary
research, manuscript composition or the revision of manuscripts. It
will give clear priority to those postdoc projects that are designed
for the ?second book.? The research projects must draw upon primary
sources located in the United States.
ELIGIBILITY
Eligible applicants are German and American doctoral students as
well as postdoctoral scholars in the fields of German history, the
history of German-American relations, and the history of the role of
Germany and the USA in international relations, and, German doctoral
students and postdoctoral scholars in the field of American history.
FUNDING
The monthly stipend is ?1,700 for doctoral students and ?3,000 for
postdoctoral scholars from European institutions; students and
scholars based at North American institutions will receive a stipend
of $1,900 or $3,200 respectively. In addition, fellowship recipients
based in Germany will receive reimbursement for their round-trip
airfare to the U.S. (cmb)
