> Hello doctoral students,
>
> Next Friday (Oct. 2), David Oshinsky, an eminent- scholar of 20th-century U.S. history, will be on campus, and I asked him whether he might be willing to meet with some of our doctoral students. He said he was happy to do so. What I'm planning is a roundtable in which Dr. Oshinsky, along with two of our own historians (Martin Sherwin and Suzanne Smith), will meet with our doctoral students to talk about the field of 20th-century U.S. history while also chatting with those doctoral students in attendance about their own dissertation topics. I think this would be a wonderful opportunity for many of you. From my own experience, these kinds of informal opportunities to talk with outside scholars about my own work as a doctoral student were extremely useful to me.

> The event will be at around 1:45; the room is TBA. Please let me know if you plan to come, so that I can gauge how big a space I need ([log in to unmask]).

> By the way, here are two web pages that outline his accomplishments and research interests.
