Effective June 1, 2015, the Library of Congress will enhance access to the HathiTrust Digital Library (http://www.hathitrust.org) and change the way LC users are authenticated.
This change will provide access to advanced HathiTrust features, including the ability to:
⢠Download full PDFs of public domain works that appear in HathiTrust.
⢠Access HathiTrust's Collection Builder, a tool that helps users create and share personal collections of HathiTrust items for private or public use.
To benefit from these improvements, users must have a Library of Congress patron account. Patron accounts are created automatically for users who obtain Reader Identification Cards through the Libraryâs Reader Registration service. Congressional patrons may obtain an account from the Libraryâs Inventory Management and Document Fulfillment Section [Phone: (202) 707-5441; Email: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>]. LC staff may obtain an account at any Collections Access, Loan and Management Division (CALM) charge station.
While many HathiTrust search and retrieval functions remain available to any user without authentication, access to the full range of HathiTrust services requires authentication. From any HathiTrust web page a patron can click the LOG IN button, then select Library of Congress from the drop-down menu. The patron is then connected to the Libraryâs authentication form, which prompts him or her to provide Library of Congress patron information (the first two letters of surname and patron account number).
