On April 17 Dr. Peter Stearns, Provost and Professor of History at George Mason University, will give a lecture  on "The History of Old Age." Dr. Stearns will address when the subject of old age gained attention and why, what we have learned about the complexities of old age in premodern societies, and 19th and 20th century concerns.  Finally, he will consider why the subject declined as a historical focus and whether it should be revived.
