We have an Archival Assistant position (position # 112382) available for a graduate student in Special Collections & Archives. All interested students, please apply through HireMason.


Special Collections & Archives (SC&A) has an opening for an Archival Assistant to assist SC&A staff in providing services to researchers and working with manuscripts and archival collections. We are looking for a responsible, engaged, detail-oriented graduate student with an interest in working with historical collections.



Archival Assistant, 12 hours / week ($9.18/hr) will assist with public services, duplication/reproduction requests, finding and reshelving collection materials, and processing and describing historical manuscripts and George Mason University collections. The assistant may also create and update finding aids using Encoded Archival Description (EAD) and Archivists' Toolkit. Duties also include paging and shelving collections, monitoring the reading room, conducting digital outreach through social media, and other projects as assigned. Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 35 lbs., climb ladders, and reach shelves required. Basic computer skills and strong communication skills needed; work experience in an archival setting, mark-up languages, and Microsoft Access are desirable.


Work hours must fall between 10:00 AM and 4:30 PM Thursday-Friday. Please provide a letter of interest and a resume / summary of previous experience. Closing date for the position is June 25, 2015.
