Dear All,

I am currently putting together the schedule for the Modern History Workshop for next semester (we will be meeting via Zoom), and am hoping that some PhD students might be interested in presenting their work. It is a great opportunity to get comments on a draft from a variety of people in the department, which is always very helpful as you work out how to revise and move forward with a piece of work. And it is also a terrific chance to practice discussing your work, and fielding questions from other scholars, in a friendly environment. We’ve had several PhD students present work in the past, and they have all found the experience enjoyable and helpful. So if you have a draft of a dissertation chapter, or would like an arbitrary deadline to force yourself to finish a draft of a dissertation chapter, please let me know by Dec 18.

All best,

Sam
