Hello Fellow History Ph.D Students -

As some of you know, I am helping to organize the new recruitment weekend to woo new potential Ph.D students to Mason. We have a few fun things planned for our new potentials but what will really help them decide to pick Mason is as much interaction with current students as possible. To that end, I am putting the call out to everyone to help make this event great. There's lots to do and it varies in time commitment. Below is a general list of help that we need. If you are currently enrolled in the colloquium a sign-up sheet will be going around tomorrow so I ask that you look this over now to see what may fit into your schedule. If you are not in colloquium and would still like to help, please contact me at [log in to unmask] so I can keep track of who we have available to help with what.

There are two events that I would appreciate if you could tell me if you plan on attending as it would help to get as accurate a picture of attendance as possible so we can make sure there is enough food for everyone, in the case of the first event, and know if we need to make a reservation, for the second event. They are the Ph.D/Faculty mixer at the Well Thursday March 24 from 5-7 pm and the Ph.D only dinner at Auld Shebeen on Friday March 25 from 6 - 8 pm.

The list is as follows:

Airport pickups Wednesday night March 23 and Thursday Morning March 24. We do not know potential's travel schedule so your time frame for availability would be appreciated.

Airport Dropoffs Friday March 25 and Saturday March 26. We do not know potential's travel schedule so your time frame for availability would be appreciated.

Hang-out to chat with new students as they wait to meet with their potential advisors one-on-one. Thursday March 24 from 11 am - 3 pm. An hour time commitment is all we ask and there will be food and drink provided.

Take new potentials out to lunch on campus. Friday March 25 12 - 1 pm.

Tour of DC - The Mall, Smithsonian, etc on Saturday March 26.

As we get closer to the event I will provide all the specific details for anyone who volunteered. In addition, a detailed calender of events will go out to everyone for any of the panels, talks and presentations we have organized if people want to attend those.
